Regency Romance & Murder Mystery (Sensual/Steamy Content)
She was once the darling of the beau monde, Georgette Lady Beaumont’s reputation lies in tatters after the apparent suicide of Lord Brockenbury’s heir. Shunned by society she embraces a secretive lifestyle in which she endeavours to evade Adam Brockenbury, whom she loathes as much as he desires her. She is not alone in thinking his elder brother’s death as somewhat suspicious, and whilst on a clandestine visit to her dearest friends she encounters a stranger of note.
Her travelling companion, although of charming disposition and of considerable handsomeness, something about him errs dark and secretive but unmitigated mutual attraction exists that neither can deny. Unfortunately he’s a Brockenbury too, and as love, jealousy and hate take precedence, three murders are committed and Georgette quite believes she will be the murderer’s next victim, but who is the real murderer?
Romance Reviews Magazine "...a fabulous intelligent Regency murder mystery with heaps of witty repartee, danger and simmering sensuality. Ms Howarth writes strong engaging characters and I simply adored Lady Georgette Beaumont..."
County Life Magazine"...A romance with murder, mystery and delightful humour, and all occurring within the period of Regency England. Methinks Austen meets Sherlock Holmes in this classic tale of love and redemption.
G. Elliott - Regency author - "...Every now and again I come across a book that I want to squeeze because I love it so much.Infamous Rival is just such a book. The joy of this book is the author's skill in immersing the reader in time and place. She doesn't rely solely on description to create atmosphere, but writes a form of language used at the time to add depth to the drama. I definitely recommend "Infamous Rivals" - especially to lovers of Jane Austen..."

Infamous Rival - Regency Murder Mystery (Bath Series Book 1) - edition by Francine Howarth, Pat Jackson. Romance eBooks @ . Reviews
Francine Howarth perfectly recreates the sights and sounds of the Regency world in this historical romance. The heroine Georgette, Lady Beaumont is a sympathetic and amiable woman who is easy to like; you soon find yourself wanting her to regain her place in society and outwit the rather dastardly Adam Brockenbury, who was the agent of her downfall. The story moves at a steady pace and is well written. With all the ingredients of a historical romance it also has the elements of a detective story as the main characters endeavour to identify the killer of Lord Brockenbury, Adam's father, and the reason for his death.
This unusual story combines a less than typical Regency heroine with a murder mystery. Georgette, Lady Beaumont, is a very likable young woman, who through no fault of her own has something of a reputation - and her life is in danger. As the story unfolds, we see how she was effectively framed and acquired the infamous name in the title, and the reader also meets the worst of blackguards, Adam Brockenbury, who is a rotter through and through. Here, the author is very skilful, for she makes this evil man convincing, and that in turn makes us fear for Lady Georgette all the more. Fortunately there is also a dashing hero, who is a real gentleman; and a number of amiable people, some of whom are straight out of an Austen novel, to help protect her. The story leads up to an exciting and surprising end - a real page-turner.
I liked the plot and the liked the idea of the various characters. Follow through? Not so much. There were huge leaps in time...not properly broken up by chapters or sections by the way. I couldn't get a good feel for either h or H, though I was slightly better able to understand the h. Actually, I also felt like I didn't have a good understanding of the antagonists either. It was all very...meh. Not horrible but nowhere near great. Finally, Ms. Howarth, I feel the need to let you know that I got so annoyed every time you wrote "Georgette Lady Beaufort". It was in there at least 20 times (yes I started counting because it bugged me). For future reference, please use either Georgette or Lady Beaufort. Saying Georgette Lady Beaufort (with no commas mind!) makes it seem like Lady is her middle name. Then I would get caught up on the fact that a middle name was mentioned, which is weird. Then, I'd have to remind myself that Lady Beaumont is her title. It took me out of the story every time. ANNOYING. Seriously.
I received this book at no charge from for my . It was a worthy read. Thank you to the author for generously providing this book free of charge.
Utterly Amazing
Francine Howarth captures the regency romance like no one else. From her language and the knowledge of historical England that she weaves into this tale, to the suspense of a murder and the heroine afraid for her life. If you haven't discovered Francine's world yet, then I highly recommend that you start with any of these tales. I was caught up in this world from beginning to end.
I would have given this a 5 star review except there were a few errors. I don't judge. I know that even the best editor you hire can miss things.
Two thumbs up!

It takes but a couple of paragraphs to yet again ascertain that Ms Howarth knows her period - all the way from what could possibly be hidden in a lady's reticule to the furnishings that decorate the houses. Couple this with a fast-paced story, a likeable, very pragmatic young heroine and you're in for a delightful and entertaining read.
Other than Georgette, our heroine, the cast comprises a crippled painter, Georgette's best friends, an upright young lawyer, a dastardly aristocratic bully and quite the unhinged young lady. Ms Howarth breathes life into most of them, and a series of cozy period interiors are skillfully woven together with passages of high drama and emotion.
Most definitely a read I can recommend!
Given the author's end note that being British she employed British language style, I am prepared to allow for the occasional moment of confusion as I, an American, read this book. What actually happened was constant re-reading and mental editing as I attempted to wade through incorrect punctuation, convoluted syntax, and overly flowery language that often completely obfuscated meaning. There were also a few points where I wondered if whole sections had been accidentally omitted. Even so, these are likeable characters and a nice little gothic plot that combine for an appealing mystery with romance. I would love to read this again after it had been in the hands of a superb editor.
